We have been operating in Ireland since 1946.Abbott Ireland Nutrition Division Cootehill CavanAbbott Nutrition produces a range of infant formulae in all pack sizes under the brand name “Similac”. To complement the range of “Similac” infant formulae, the facility also manufactures a range of follow on formulae under the brand name of “Gain”. The essential ingredient is liquid skim milk and this is combined with carbohydrate, vegetable oils, vitamins and minerals. The product is blended, pasteurised, dried and packaged at the site and once packaged, is distributed to Europe, South East Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Canada. Established in 1975, Abbott Nutrition in Ireland is the largest powder manufacturing facility for the production of infant formulae within the Abbott Corporation worldwide. Approximately 1,000 dairy farms in Ireland and Northern Ireland supply quality milk to the Cootehill facility which processes 500,000 litres per day. This secure supply together with Ireland’s reputation as a green, clean environment is of significant strategic importance to Abbott Nutrition.Primary Function / Goals / ObjectivesProvide overall leadership, direction and support in all aspects of the development activities and overall functional supports.Drive and generate continuous improvements initiatives in the technical departmentAbbott policies and procedures meeting all local, and regulatory requirementsProvide leadership and influence optimisation of Cootehills performance in line with site Vision and missionEnsure continued implementation of the Performance Excellence initiative throughout the Cootehill technical department, completing all goals, performance reviews and growth plan as scheduled.Support preparations for all internal and external audits in order to achieve successful results.Support all quality and plant initiatives and provide leadership when dealing with quality and plant issues.Undertake assignments or projects as requested.Ensuring QA compliance is followed and all project activities within R&D are adhered to.Ensure all documents are developed per policy requirementsEnsure all project time-lines are met as per agreed schedules.To ensure Cootehill technical department training /compliance wire metrics are met.Compliance to all procedures/rules within the organisationThis Job function will change where updates to cGMP, EHS, Technical / New Equipment, Quality Procedures & SOP’s are made.This list of responsibilities may change depending on plant needs and employees are expected to be adaptable and flexible where this need arises.Follow all Health and Safety Rules and Regulations in the plant.Report any current or potential hazards to your manager immediately.The correct Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) must be worn always. Consult the appropriate SOP where required. Ensure all policies and procedures in relation to product development are followed.Major ResponsibilitiesSupport best practice in NPI process, project management, and all aspects relevantaspects of plant operation.Provide support to the Cootehill plant as required.Supporting the team in relation to QA activities and the managing of technical programs.Supervisory/Management ResponsibilitiesInfluencing skills are essential for the position both within and outside the organisationPeople management skills are necessary both within and outside the organisation.Education RequiredBachelor Degree in Food Science/Technology or equivalent.· Business/Management Experience.Knowledge2 to 3 years’ experience in a Manufacturing Industry.Decision making and influencing skills are required.Excellent understanding of food science/technology is required.A strong degree of analysis, mathematical skills and problem solving is required to evaluate different options and to implement ongoing formulation and ingredient improvements.Computer skills, particularly spreadsheet use, are essential.Accountability / ScopeThis position requires a good degree of interaction with groups inside and outside of ANSC. From a technical perspective, every formulation developed for the Cootehill plant is the responsibility of this function. Formulations are the basis of the Cootehill operation – providing opportunities to optimize products, maintain or reduce costs, ensure compliance, etc. For issues relating to Regulatory Affairs, the ability to influence and lead decisions to the benefit of AI is positive.Discover why candidates choose a career at Abbott Ireland
