About the Joint Educational Institute has recently established a Joint Educational Institute (JEI) with (SUDA) in China. This new College, the International College of Pharmaceutical Innovation, represents a significant, and exciting, collaboration in China. We are seeking applications for a full-time, Associate Professor role with the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences to be the Education Lead for the JEI. The appointee will join a growing team of academics within the School who will deliver the portfolio of programmes to students in both RCSI Dublin and SUDA. The new College will deliver, in partnership with SUDA, three programmes which are currently delivered in RCSI. These programmes are the BSc Advanced Therapeutic Technologies, BSc (Pharmacy) and a MSc by research. Founded in 1900, SUDA is a research intensive university ranked in the top 5% of Chinese universities with a strong strategic focus on increasing its internationalisation and its rankings. SUDA is located in the city of Suzhou in the Jiangsu province and is a short train journey from Shanghai. The Jiangsu province itself is a densely populated (80 million) and industrialised region neighbouring Shanghai. It is considered the most developed of the 22 provinces in China with the bio/pharmaceutical industry a major source of employment in the region. Objective of this post:Appointable at Associate Professor level, the main objective of the post is to lead the Academic programmes in the International College of Pharmaceutical Innovation, including contributing to the design, development, delivery and quality assurance of the School’s educational programmes. This exciting opportunity will require the successful candidate to spend approximately 16 weeks in China. This duration will be spread over the course of the year rather than one bulk period with travel and living expenses provided. During that timeframe the primary focus will be on academic leadership, programme delivery and module co-ordination while offering opportunities to develop and engage in research activities in a world class setting. The successful candidate will be provided with increased flexibility to further their research portfolio while in Dublin. RCSI is seeking a professional who is passionate about the art & science of teaching, would like to experience working as an academic in a multicultural and international environment, who demonstrates initiative, openness and resilience. Specific Responsibilities include: As senior academic in the JEI, to provide academic leadership for each of the programmes of the JEI, in conjunction with the Deputy Dean and the SUDA counterpart.Oversee delivery of the JEI programmes – design, development, direction, teaching, facilitation and examining - to ensure timely commencement in 2024 & beyond.Lead and oversee the administration of current teaching programmes, teaching modalities and assessment in the area of pharmacy and other pharmacy-related areas, for JEI students.Participate in the delivery of the related teaching programmes, teaching modalities and assessment for the various programmes of the JEI.Maintain existing and/or develop new research interests through collaboration and securing competitive research funding.Supervising undergraduate research students and also postgraduate students to degree awards at both Masters and PhD level.Contribute to, and lead, different working groups and committees within the International College to ensure the smooth running and administration of the College and academic programmes.Engage and manage key stakeholders and subject matter experts of each of the JEI programmes to ensure high quality standards and learning outcomes are achieved as well as continuously striving for improvement to meet changing needs of the programmes.Lead on JEI internal quality review and programmatic reviews as and when needed.Ensuring effective procedures are in place for induction and training of staff to facilitate strong staff engagement and successful delivering of JEI programmes in China.Ensuring students receive a transformative learning experience through robust quality oversight of the JEI programmes.Lead continuous quality improvement efforts, identifying areas of programme enhancement and areas to meet changing industry needs, while ensuring equivalence with the RCSI-awarded degrees.Evaluates student outcomes throughout the curriculum and use assessment data to innovate and improve teaching strategies within courses.Contribute to the recruitment of appropriate RCSI academic, administrative and support personnel for delivery of the JEI programmes.Supporting the development and implementation of policies and decisions in relation to the academic programmes and as determined by the JEI Joint Management Committee.Participating in and, as appropriate, attending RCSI Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences board, Academic Council and committee meetings and other RCSI & JEI governance structures as appropriate.Participating in the development of RCSI’s teaching and learning strategy including the effective use of technology-enhanced learning.Undergoing programmes of training and development as may be required.Performing such other related duties as may be required.Representing the best interests of the College and RCSI at all times. Person Specification Essential: A pharmacy or pharmacy-related first degree e.g. pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, with a relevant postgraduate degree such as a PhD or equivalent.Significant pharmacy related academic experience in higher education institutions.Proven leadership qualities, capacity for executive administrative responsibilities and working as part of a leadership team, contributing to strategic planning, budget management, providing advice and implementing initiatives to deliver on organisational objectives.A high level of interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with JEI programme stakeholders and subject matter experts as well as members of the academic, research, administrative and support teams.In-depth and up to date understanding of current issues and trends in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences education.A strong interest in working in an overseas environment and a willingness to travel on a frequent basis.Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum development, delivery, assessment and management and a track record in research.Ability to work in a multicultural environment, across diverse teams, departments, and schoolsCompetitive research record, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in journals of high quality/impact and grant supportStrong teaching interest and skill set, as evidenced by experience of, a proven track record in, and enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching and assessment in pharmacy and pharmacy-related subjectsEnthusiasm for your specialist teaching area and the ability to engage your students to successfully transfer this passion and learningCapacity for original thought and the ability to produce original and up to date teaching methodsAn ability to continuously adapt and innovate teaching methods to ensure students’ full understandingDemonstrate an interest in seeking ways and opportunities to support students’ whole development.Strong commitment to own personal and professional developmentHas a proven ability for both independent and teamwork
