Hays Recruitment are currently recruiting for an experienced Design Director to join our client, a leading M+E contractor based in Cork.About the RoleThe client provide a wide range of design solutions to our wide client base. Our Design Team cover a wide spectrum of services from HVAC to Utilities to Decarbonisation projects. The Engineering Director will be an integral part of the Senior leadership team and will manage a team of skilled Design Engineers to develop project scope based on client requirements.Key duties of the role include, but are not restricted to:Project Leadership:Lead the design team through all phases of project development, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.Liaise with clients, architects and project managers to gain an in-depth understanding of project scope.Experience in working as part of a team where Mentoring and development of engineering staff is supported.Very good proactive communicatorCollaborate with cross-functional teams to drive successful project outcomes.Engage with key client stakeholders to identify and win projects on a negotiated basis.Engineering Design:Lead the design process, from concept to production, utilising industry-leading CAD software and other design tools.Develop project scope with design team and client.Utilise the latest design standards whilst ensuring sustainability is at the forefront of each design.Design and specification of mechanical and utility services for a wide client base.Lead Projects through Design development (Lod 200 – LOD 500 ) & Design Build projects from concept development through to completion and handover.Produce budgets and reports for clients including Carbon reduction calculations and supporting documentation.Deep knowledge of Building Regulations, CIBSE, BS, IS and EN StandardsProvide technical expertise in the development and optimisation of mechanical systems, components, and products.Identify and propose Value Engineering solutions to support project estimating teams during bid cycle.Identify and propose OSM opportunities to support client expectations and assist project estimating team during bid cycle.Identify and resolve issue within design that may affect constructability.Innovation and Optimisation:Identify and implement innovative design solutions to enhance product performance, efficiency, and reliability.Conduct performance assessments and provide constructive feedback to team members.Quality Assurance:Establish and enforce design standards and best practices to ensure the highest level of quality in all deliverables.Conduct design reviews and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.About YouThe ideal candidate will be organised and efficient, pay strong attention to detail and be a good communicator.You will:Possess a relevant 3rd level qualification, at level 8 or above and chartered.Have a proven track record of successfully leading design and delivering high-quality projects.Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ACC) and other relevant design tools.Proven leadership abilities.Be comfortable in producing detailed monthly reports.Be conscientious, have excellent attention to detail and an ability to multitask.Have a positive attitude and an energetic approach, with a passion to learn & succeed.The ability to contribute comfortably as part of a team and to the overall growth of the organisation.
