The Division of Paediatric Critical Care Medicine of Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) has devised a 12 to 24 month fellowship programme to meet the requirements of senior trainees from around the globe seeking to qualify as specialists in Paediatric Critical Care Medicine. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must have completed at least 2 years of subspecialty training in the field of paediatrics, anaesthesiology or emergency medicine and 6 months of tertiary level neonatal, paediatric or adult intensive care. Fluent in the English language Eligibility to work in Ireland The Division of Paediatric Critical Care Medicine CHI at Crumlin houses a 23 bedded Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) incorporating both a General and Cardiac ICU. It is one of the largest ICUs in the UK and Ireland with approximately 1,000 admissions per annum and supports multiple national sub-specialist services including cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery (at quaternary level for the Island of Ireland), oncology, gastroenterology, respiratory medicine, endocrinology, neurology and ENT. Furthermore, it houses Ireland’s only extracorporeal life support (ECLS) service for children. The PICU at CHI Temple Street is a 9 bedded general unit which supports the national metabolic and neurosurgical services amongst others and facilitates the national renal transplant programme. It receives over 400 admissions yearly. Both units staff the Irish Paediatric Acute Transport Service (IPATS), which stabilises and retrieves patients referred from throughout Ireland, by both land and air. About Children’s Health Ireland Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) is the body responsible for governing the delivery of tertiary paediatric care in Ireland. It incorporates Ireland’s two standalone paediatric hospitals, previously named Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin and The Children’s University Hospital at Temple Street, as well as The National Children’s Hospital at Tallaght. Following the completion of the New Children’s Hospital – scheduled for spring 2025 – all Irish tertiary paediatric inpatient services will be delivered at this purpose-built and state-of-the-art facility.
