The RoleThis role is responsible for the maintenance, fault finding and replacement of all controls equipment including PLC's, vision systems, Aveva Scada and servo drives . As an automation SME for the Biotools areas this role will lead the growth in technology and development of capabilities of technical persons within the Biotools department. This role will aim to develop the automation teams skills and processes to improve productivity of the machines under this roles remit.Duties Include:Design, develop, install and test PLC and control software Systems & projects and interrogate existing PLC code to determine cause of faults or machine issuesResponsible for the on-going co-ordination and development of PLC systems including upgrading obsolete systems to latest versions including managing Vendors to complete upgradesDevelop knowledge of on-site systems and equipment such as PLC's, Servo motors, vision systems and robotics to become the Site SME for these technologiesExperience with electrical control circuits in fault finding technical issues with sensors, safety interlocks and other input / output hardware associated with automation systemsMonitor and analyze opportunities for the development of new or improved tools for process improvement activitiesSupport the site during out of hours with automation issues as part of the Automation Oncall service as part of the Automation On-call team rotaHave a keen ability to fault find complex automation equipment including interrogation of program code to identify issuesCoach area technicians and junior control engineers as required and support problem solving and continuous improvement efforts across all areas of BiotoolsManage all Requisitions and financial needs to ensure site discretionary budgets and capital budgets are metEnsure project design and installations meet the requirement of EU directives such as the Machinery Directive and CE complianceEnsure Electrical Control Panels are built to standard and adhere to Safety of Machinery –EN60204-1Responsible for negotiating and maintaining all associated support contractsResponsible for keeping all controls related equipment up to date and conforming to all internationally recognised standardsWho You AreBEng degree in electrical/electronic/automation engineering or equivalent, with particularemphasis in the automation disciplineMinimum of 7 years + industry experience in an FDA or GMP environment as an automation controls engineerExperience with Robotic/pick &place Machines with high speed assembly operations requiredIn depth knowledge of automation network protocols including EtherNet IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Modbus and ProfibusBe familiar with planned preventative maintenance approaches
