Job Description:The successful candidate will work closely with the PI Dr. Cassie Smith-Christmas in conducting, disseminating, and communicating the main project findings. Duties: Carry out semi-structured interviews with approximately 20-25 families who fit the scope of the projectCarry out ethnographic research in the areas in which the families liveWork with six families (of the initial 20-25 families) in completing a multimodal ‘language diary’ using an iPadCarry out semi-structured interviews with the cúntóirí teangain the areas in which the families liveTranscribe relevant dataCode data in NVivoCommunicate the project research within and beyond the research team, for example: Prepare periodic and final reports of findings; Prepare abstracts, journal articles, policy briefs and presentations for dissemination of the work in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, international conferences and relevant symposia.Chair one international academic conference and one youth engagement eventBuild and maintain project website; maintain project blogAny other duties assigned commensurate to this level of post Qualifications/Skills required: Essential Requirements: PhD in Linguistics or related area, especially in Applied Linguistics or Sociolinguistics (submitted before interview date) Excellent writing and communication skills in English Ability to work well both collaboratively and independently Highly motivated, with excellent organisational skills Experience in qualitative research (especially ethnographic research)Experience in working with families and/or children using ethnographic methodsExperience in recording, transcribing, and analysing natural speechExperience presenting at national and international conferencesExperience in conference organisation Desirable Requirements: Experience in using NVivoDemonstratable background in Family Language Policy (FLP) researchExcellent written and communication skills in IrishFluency in a third language in addition to Irish or EnglishExperience working with migrant communities Experience using NVivoPublication track recordExperience in organising youth-led eventsExperience building and maintaining a websiteExperience in communicating findings to general and diverse audiences Salary: Postdoctoral Researcher salary scale €42, - €54, per annum, (subject to the project’s funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts. The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. This may be reviewed, and consideration afforded to appointment at a higher point on the payscale (subject to the project’s funding limitations), where evidence of prior years’ equivalent experience is accepted in determining placement on the scale above point 1, subject to the maximum of the scale.
