Specialist Medical Scientist - National Isolation Unit

<p>The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, in the RCSI Hospital Group, is a multidisciplinary academic level 4 teaching hospital located in central Dublin. It is the national centre for specialities and super specialities including but not limited to: heart surgery, heart and lung transplant, spinal injuries and adult extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). It is a designated cancer centre and has regional gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, neurology and dermatology services.</p> <p>The National Isolation Unit (NIU), for adult patients, is also located at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Dublin and is the national referral centre for high risk suspected and confirmed cases of VHF/high consequence infectious diseases (HCID). It is designed to admit, isolate and treat patients suspected or diagnosed with highly infectious diseases that are referred from all over Ireland who have both hazardous and highly infectious diseases. The Unit will also provide essential care of infectious diseases stemming from bioterrorism.</p> <p></p> <p>A bespoke/dedicated BSL3 laboratory, under the governance of Microbiology will serve the NIU, processing patient samples that have the potential to contain Hazard Group 4 (HG4) and Hazard Group 3 (HG3) organisms and novel pathogens of high consequence.</p> <p></p> <p>The post holder, under the direction of the Lead Consultant Microbiologist and Chief Medical Scientist for Microbiology will be responsible for oversight of all activities required to commission, activate and maintain the NIU BSL3.</p> <p></p> <p>Candidates must be able to provide evidence that they satisfy the requirements of the Department of Health and Children, CORU and those of the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine as laid out for their role as Specialist Medical Scientist regarding qualifications and Membership. <strong><ins>If applying from overseas, candidates must have a Level 4 visa with full working rights.
