Title: Research Co-ordinator – Translational & Clinical Cancer ResearchReports to: Head of ResearchContract Type: PermanentHours of Work: Full-time (35 hours/week) Mon – Fri 9am to 5pmLocation: The Society operates a hybrid working model with a combination of remote & in-person (Dublin 4 office) working. Every year, we fund patient-focused cancer research from translational and clinical projects in areas such as early detection, novel cancer treatments and clinical trials, right through to research focussed on cancer prevention, improvements in care, wellbeing and outcomes of those living with, through and beyond a cancer diagnosis, in addition to research to support those at end of life. What you’ll do:Over the next five years, the Society wants to increase translational and clinical cancer research activities amongst the cancer research community in Ireland. Your role will be to develop and implement large multidisciplinary patient-focused strategic projects within the translational and clinical research theme. You will work closely with all members of the cancer research department in the Irish Cancer Society as well as with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement policies, strategies and plans for enhancing cancer research capability amongst this community.If you are passionate about the importance of cancer research in making a difference to the lives of people affected by cancer, then this role is for you. Research Programmes:Develop and implement the Society’s research funding calls aimed at the translational biomedical & clinical research community.Support all activities relating to ongoing grant management, and work with currently funded researchers and research support staff on a day-to-day basis.Develop strategies to continuously improve the quality of grant management and monitoring and ensure best practice in award governance processes and procedures.Contribute to the development of new strategic research projects aimed at building capacity amongst the translational and clinical cancer research community. Stakeholder Engagement:Develop and maintain working relationships with funded researchers, key members of the translational and biomedical community and other relevant stakeholders.Interact with other funding agencies on joint funding arrangements and partnerships.Partner with other departments within the Irish Cancer Society to develop internal cancer research priorities.Work with the Irish Cancer Society Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) panel, to ensure the patient voice is embedded into our research processes. Communication:Work with the Irish Cancer Society communications team to provide external communication of the Society’s research programmes and calls.Work alongside the research team to coordinate research talks, workshops, training opportunities, and outreach events.Implement the Society’s impact monitoring framework for our clinical awardees.Assist the research team in responding to research related queries from the public.Represent the Research Department at internal and external meetings and inform the Research Team and others in the Society as required of the outcomes and actions arising from these meetings. Who you are:Passionate about cancer researchHave excellent stakeholder management and people skills, and an ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teamsHigh level of organisational ability, accuracy and attention to detail.  You are able to make decisions using good judgement and reasoning.Have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to draft and edit reports.Have a flexible approach with the ability to work in a methodical and organized fashion. Your qualifications and experience:A PhD (or within 3 months’ completion) or equivalent* in translational biomedical sciencesGood knowledge of the translational research funding environment in Ireland including funding procedures and university processes.Experience of working on research projects involving translational research patient focussed research is desirable.Experience within the cancer research/service provision landscape is desirable.*PhD equivalence is defined as three or more senior (first, joint-first, or last) author publications in peer-reviewed academic journals or 4 years’ full-time research experience post-primary degree General:The Irish Cancer Society operates a no-smoking policy and the post holder must not smoke in the office or when on Society business outside the office.Be willing to occasionally work outside of normal working hours.All employees are required to be aware of their responsibilities towards health and safety and to adhere to fire regulations.This job description is not exhaustive; it merely acts as a guide and may be amended to meet the changing requirements of the Society at any time after discussion with the post holder.Please note all CVs are logged through a 3rd party system for processing.The closing date for applications is close of business Monday 25th March 2024The Irish Cancer Society is an equal opportunity employer.
