The mainstream acute services provided by Sligo University Hospital (SUH) cover the following specialties: Emergency Medicine, Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Obstetrics / Gynaecology, Medicine, Cardiology, Diabetology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Respiratory Medicine, Rheumatology, Nephrology, Oncology, Pain Medicine, Palliative Medicine, Haematology, Microbiology, Orthodontics, Pathology, Anaesthesia, Intensive Care Medicine, Radiology.</p> <p>In addition, Services in Immunology and Radiation Oncology are provided via University College Hospital, Galway.</p> <p>A full range of clinical and non-clinical support services are provided, including Theatres, CSSD, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Medical Records, Social Work and Therapies. Services are provided on a regional basis with outreach services provided to Letterkenny University Hospital in respect of ENT, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Dermatology Services, Rheumatology and Orthodontics. Outpatient clinics are also provided at Community Hospitals in our catchment area across many specialties. The workforce of approx. 2000 staff provide a range of highly specialised services extending to 150,000 people in Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal and West Cavan and surrounding counties. The current Dermatology Service in the North West is delivered to a catchment area of 250,000.</p> <p>This role has been created as a component of delivery of the Dermatology Pathways (Pigmented Skin Lesions Pathway, Psoriasis Pathway and Acne Pathway). Dermatology is one of a number of modernised care pathways developed by the HSE. The Dermatology Pathways (Pigmented Skin Lesions Pathway, Psoriasis Pathway and Acne Pathway) will implement a Hub and Spoke model of care to facilitate and support the screening and treatment of skin lesions and skin diseases. The Dermatology Pathways aim to provide greater outreach locally in peripheral hospitals to support a local network of GPs, providing care closer to home for patients, and on site in dermatology clinics. To enable delivery of this service resources will be acute based and will provide greater outreach to the community. Targets have been established for each pathway and KPIs will be measured, with strong expectation that these targets are achieved.</p> <p>The Dermatology Pathways (Pigmented Skin Lesions Pathway, Psoriasis Pathway and Acne Pathway) will implement a Hub and Spoke model of care to facilitate and support the screening and treatment of skin lesions and skin diseases. The Post holder will: a)strengthen the Dermatology Services in SUH. b)Lead the development of a dedicated skin cancer clinic in SUH. c)Support the introduction of subspecialist clinics including paediatric, psoriasis and inflammatory skin conditions and acne. d)Attend multidisciplinary meetings for example Dermatopathology, combined patient consultations and Skin Cancer MDM, thereby strengthening ties with Galway University Hospital. The post will contribute to on-going progress in the delivery of senior decision making at the point of access to the hospital and redirection of patients presenting acutely to the hospital back to community care with acute management plans or redirection to appropriate specialist outpatient assessment.</p>
